Finding  "Nemo"...

Marine Park "Nemo"    Part of my plan of vacationing in Odesa, was to see everything that there is to see - well at least to give it a try. I knew about the  marine park nearby on the Lanzheron beach. However, I didn't really think that it was worth going there - as it turns out I was wrong.

I was there once when I was 6 years old and, really, don't remember much about it. Going there wasn't a part of my plan, but my friends, Ihor and Natalka, that dropped by Odesa the day before had convinced me to go with them. So this was the first time in a long time that I went to the Marine Park. The Marine Park is called "Nemo" - like the clownfish from the movie.

"Nemo" is the largest all year round operational marine park in the former USSR. You can check out their website here: Marine Park "Nemo".

Anyhow, I didn't regret going there. In fact, I have a lot of fond memories from the 45 minute show. Great program, great music, amazing performances from the north seals, dolphins and their coaches. To put it in a few words: Great Show !!! I sat like a kid with my jaw dropped enjoying all the tricks that the animals and their coaches put on. 45 minutes went by really fast. I went on the day show but, apparently, "Nemo" also has a great night show. Next time I'll check it out.

I took a lot of pictures trying to catch that special moment when the dolphins do their tricks but only managed to get it a couple times. You can see a collection of my  pictures below. At the end of the show I just couldn't resist to get a picture with our intellectual equals.

One of the interesting features in the "Nemo" Marine park" was the most overlooked one too. People literally walked over it not realising what it is that they are missing. Well, I'm sure that some of my friends will appreciate this. To my utter astonishment and surprise the pavement tiles were ... lizards (see the picture below). When I saw the tiles my first and only thought was "Escher". You do not know about Escher? Find out at the official MC Escher website. =) He he, interesting isn't it? After a little googling, I've found the original tiles by "Escher".

So it's good to know that math is actually useful and applied in many different ways. =) He he.

To summarize, I've had a lot of fun "Finding Nemo" so to speak. So if you have a chance, definitely go there and take your kids with you - it will be a memorable experience. And do not forget to take your camera. =)
